The short version

  • Advanced Air will fly 12 weekly nonstop round trips to Imperial County under a 4-year federal EAS contract.
  • Porter Airlines adds Edmonton in November and Calgary in December — Phoenix's first nonstops to those Canadian cities.
  • Breeze Airways' Phoenix–New Orleans nonstop launches February 2, 2027, on a twice-weekly schedule.
  • STARLUX Airlines raised its Taipei–Phoenix flights from 4 to 5 per week, citing semiconductor supply-chain demand.
  • Southwest Airlines starts seasonal Saturday Phoenix–Bozeman service on June 5, 2027, near Yellowstone.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is adding seven new nonstop routes, with the first three launching as soon as next month. Phoenix Aviation Director Chad Makovsky reported all seven to the Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board on October 15, 2026. The additions cover Canada, two California cities, Nebraska, New Orleans, Montana, and an added weekly flight to Taipei.

Your next trip just got easier — here is what changes and when

If you have been routing through Dallas or Los Angeles to reach Edmonton or Calgary, that changes this winter. Porter Airlines will fly nonstop to both Canadian cities — Edmonton in November and Calgary in December. That matters for business travelers with ties to Alberta’s energy sector and for anyone visiting family in western Canada.

Wine-country travelers get a direct path, too. Alaska Airlines will begin nonstop service to Santa Rosa, California in November. Santa Rosa sits at the doorstep of Sonoma wine country. Until now there was no nonstop option from Sky Harbor.

Planning a trip to Yellowstone? Southwest Airlines will start seasonal Saturday service from Phoenix to Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport on June 5, 2027. Bozeman is the closest commercial airport to Yellowstone National Park. The new route removes the need to connect through Salt Lake City or Denver.

For real estate context: Sky Harbor’s consistent route growth is one factor that makes the Phoenix Valley appealing to out-of-state relocators. Buyers moving from cities that prize direct flight access often list airport connectivity alongside schools and commute times. More nonstops mean more places reachable without a layover.

Sky Harbor’s seven new routes at a glance — what was announced on October 15

Aviation Director Makovsky laid out all seven routes in a single presentation to the Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board (PAAB) on October 15, 2026. Here is what was confirmed that day, grouped by when each route starts.

November departures: Porter to Edmonton, Alaska to Santa Rosa, Advanced Air to Imperial

Three routes launch in November. Porter Airlines begins nonstop service to Edmonton, Canada. Alaska Airlines begins nonstop service to Santa Rosa, California. And Advanced Airlines begins nonstop service to Imperial, California.

The Imperial route is the most unusual of the three. It runs under a federally designated Essential Air Service (EAS) contract awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The four-year agreement runs from November 1, 2026 through October 31, 2030. Advanced Air will fly 12 weekly nonstop round trips between Imperial County Airport (IPL) and Sky Harbor (PHX). The aircraft is a nine-passenger Beechcraft King Air 350. Imperial County is a rural farming community in Southern California. It sits near the Arizona and Mexican borders. EAS contracts exist to keep small communities connected to the national air network.

At the October 15 PAAB meeting, Board Member Sandra Ferniza asked a question about Terminal 3. She wanted to know whether the new Breeze Airways and Advanced Air flights would use the recently renovated lower-level gates. Aviation Director Makovsky confirmed they would. He called it “a much-improved experience over what they had before.”

December departures: American to Lincoln, Porter to Calgary

In December, American Airlines will begin nonstop service to Lincoln, Nebraska. Porter Airlines will also add its second Canadian route, launching nonstop service to Calgary, Canada. Calgary is Alberta’s largest city and a hub for the energy industry. It also serves as a gateway to Banff National Park.

Looking further out: Breeze to New Orleans (February 2027) and Southwest to Bozeman (June 2027)

Breeze Airways will begin nonstop service between Phoenix and New Orleans in February 2027. The airline’s own booking site shows the first departure as February 2, 2027. Flights also appear on February 4 and February 7. That points to a twice-weekly schedule from launch.

Southwest Airlines recently announced seasonal Saturday service between Sky Harbor and Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport. That route starts June 5, 2027. Bozeman is the primary commercial gateway for visitors to Yellowstone National Park.

STARLUX adds a fifth weekly flight to Taipei — why it matters

Alongside the seven new routes, STARLUX Airlines is increasing its weekly Phoenix–Taipei flights from four to five. STARLUX spokesperson Walter Liang confirmed the move to Taiwan’s Central News Agency on October 20, 2026. He cited strong load factors and stable fares driven by semiconductor supply-chain demand.

That context matters for the Phoenix Valley. TSMC’s North Phoenix chip fabs have drawn Taiwanese engineers and executives to the area. Demand for direct Taipei access has grown with that workforce. A fifth weekly flight is a 25 percent frequency increase on Phoenix’s only nonstop Asia route.

When the first flights depart and what comes after

The three November routes — Porter to Edmonton, Alaska to Santa Rosa, and Advanced Air to Imperial — are the most immediate. Exact launch dates within November were not specified in the PAAB report. The two December routes, American to Lincoln and Porter to Calgary, follow. Breeze Airways targets February 2, 2027, for its New Orleans launch. Southwest’s Bozeman route is the furthest out, starting June 5, 2027.

All seven routes were formally presented to the Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board on October 15, 2026. The PAAB is an advisory body. It receives reports from Aviation Director Makovsky but does not approve airline service agreements. No additional public votes are required for these routes to proceed.
